name: Elizabeth Bennet
canon: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (movie version)
canon point: Mid-movie; just before meeting Wickham’s zombie congregation
age: 20

(canon) background: background link
(original) world: n/a

abilities: Elizabeth has trained and mastered several forms of shaolin kung fu, with a preference for the crane style, along throwing daggers and the chinese double edged swords. Along with chinese martial arts, she's trained both in knives and sword fighting, as well as being a skilled markswoman. Knowing her size to be a disadvantage, she makes up for it in speed and agility, being fast enough to catch flies in midair, while able to fend off men twice her size by a well placed kick.

Having spent some years in China, Elizabeth is fluent in several dialects of Chinese with an emphasis on mandarin. While not as fluent, she is capable of holding a conversation in French.

Not mentioned in the movie, in the book, it's hinted that she has some level of skill in explosives and explosive chemicals like phosphorus.

strengths:
Elizabeth’s strongest trait is her wit. Growing up in an environment that both deals with class conflict and the constant threat of zombie attacks, Elizabeth faces it all with a sharp tongue and observant eye. She refuses to be put down for her opinions, answering barb for barb as easily as being in combat. Whether addressing Darcy, the Bingley sisters or even with her sisters, she refuses to let her supposed opponent have the last word in any manner, looking to see their weakness or what would make them tick before landing another blow.

Having spent a good deal of time in her father’s library, Elizabeth prides herself on being logical and intelligent, refusing to give in to social graces if she could help it. When her sister tries to convince herself of Mr. Bingly’s uninterest with her, Elizabeth tries to lift her spirits by concluding it is his sisters doing and tries to get her to see reason over his actions. She is also one of the few who understands the reasoning for Wickham’s ‘zombie aristocrats’; how it takes only one bite to make a zombie, and if there is even a way to reason with them, it would be possible to finally suppress the threat.

Finally, Elizabeth shows a great deal of adaptability and courage in the face of ongoing danger. Having endured the harsh and at times humbling training of the Shaolin, and the constant threat of attacking zombies, Elizabeth refuses to let herself be shaken or back down from any sort of challenge or threat. Be it facing Catherine De Burgh or facing an entire zombie congregation, she is quick to adapt to what’s ahead of her, refusing to be overcome with nerves or fear. In combat, she does what’s needed to win, understanding that not all opponents fight fairly or are matched in skill to hers; she does not see it as cheating, but rather evening out the playing field.

weaknesses:
Deep down Elizabeth possesses a deep-seated anger; anger at herself for her situation in life, and anger at a world that doesn’t seem to acknowledge her beyond her value in the marriage market. She hates the idea of having to settle into a marriage out of charity and not respect or affection, hates that she’s constantly looked down for her Shaolin training, her mother’s foolishness and her family’s low station. Much as she tries to conceal and hide this anger, there are times when it comes out before she could control herself; at best, this is expressed in sarcastic or biting remarks and quips at others expense, yet other times the anger is so great that she will lash out in physical attacks.

For all she likes to think of herself as reasonable, Elizabeth is as much prone to prejudice as those she scorns. Having been on the defense for her family's station and her training, she can be quick to judge those of higher rank, especially those who already make poor first impressions on her. Once her opinion is formed, it takes a long time for it to be changed, and in the process will color her thoughts regarding others; she was more than willing to give Wickham the benefit of a doubt when she found he was at odds with Darcy, without considering the whole story.

Of all her sisters, Elizabeth is the most violent and bloodthirsty. Having studied the Art of War, she takes every advantage when it comes to combat. That she is the one leading and not her eldest sister Jane against killing zombies reads as her wanting to be first in for the kill. She carries a sword while her sisters wear daggers, and when she’s told by her cousin that he expects her to give up fighting once they marry, that is what prompts her to finally voice her refusal to him. Even outside of zombie slaying, there is a part of Elizabeth that’s always wanting to respond to a problem with violence.

job skills (optional): Martial artist, swordswoman, sharpshooter with understanding of how to maintain muskets and rifles. She’s also a fair rider and has some understanding of early chemistry.
(If possible, I’d like for her to get a post on the Perimeter Guard)
housing (optional): Would prefer a shared floor in community housing-number could be random

The feed shows Elizabeth sitting at a bar top in a restaurant-to judge from the print and abundance of red and gold, it appears to be a Chinese place. On the table before her are a number of dishes, and a small bowl of rice. It is sad to admit, but I think I may prefer this place to home-or I would if my family were to appear. Besides the opportunity to actually earn a place working as part of the guard and earning a salary, I have also found a place that makes a valiant attempt at providing Chinese food. Not the exactly the sort we had while living in China, but still a welcomed repast; back home, most families prefer to serve Japanese food if they wish to show off.

[She picked up her rice.] Would anyone wish to join me? I am afraid I got a little carried away with ordering. I just can not get used to eating by myself.

prose/action sample:

Years of training in the Shaolin temple, having learned from The Art of War, Elizabeth thought she had a good grasp on adapting to situations; to let one’s guard down so completely was inviting death after all. Yet, she wasn’t entirely sure traveling to new worlds-indeed, the discovery of new worlds counted; how anyone wouldn’t be caught off guard at such a discovery was beyond her reckoning.

Not that this place was terrible. To be told that she was automatically assigned a job as part of the guard was actually flattering; she might not become wealthy off the work, but back home, no woman ever joined the military, however they were allowed in to aide and volunteer. To be given such a post against the creatures outside the gates, and being paid for it was certainly a better option than to be trapped in a loveless marriage.

She just wished her family was with her. She knew her mother would be disappointed at the housing conditions and lack of society, but she couldn’t see the rest of them making a large deal. The lack of a zombie threat (but still having a threat outside the walls) would’ve likely set her father at ease, but still allow him to feel useful. Her younger sisters would just have a fine time admiring the various warriors stationed by the barriers (likely showing off and making fools of themselves), and the library would hold Mary’s attention more than anything. As for Jane, no doubt she would seek to learn as much as she could to support the guard as possible; for all her warriors’ skills, her eldest sister always saw combat as a necessity rather than take actual pleasure in it.
Her first shift at the guard would not be until later. To pass the time, Elizabeth was pleased to find the amory and familiarize herself with the weapons provided. Such firearms (rifles, not muskets) were more advanced and better put together than the ones in her father’s arsenal, and she was determined to learn how to they worked and the proper way to maintain them.
